Why Are Some People Always Cold

Some people are always cold. I know from personal experience, I once dated one. No matter the condition, indoor or out, it seemed she was always a tad too cold for comfort. I’ve often wondered about the reason behind her icy interior. Do some bodies naturally run colder? Was she secretly a member of the undead? 

If you or your snuggle partner are always cold, it may be completely normal or the sign of a larger health condition. To find out for sure, some personal investigation and possibly a doctor visit may be required. Regardless, it is always smarter to know before unpacking the vampire stakes.

Why Am I Always Cold?

Feeling temporarily colder than others can be the result of external factors including alcohol consumption, illness, and medication. However, long-term cold-bloodedness is often the result of the internal body’s processes. One’s gender plays a huge role in the comfort temperature of their body, according to a 2015 study. The study found that women preferred temperatures that averaged 3 degrees Celsius higher than their male counterparts. This is theorized to be due to women’s lower resting metabolism.

However, if one’s temperature levels are significantly different than the average person of the same sex, it may signify an underlying disease or dietary deficiency. Potential causes include:

  • Anemia
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Raynaud’s phenomenon
  • Kidney disease
  • Peripheral artery disease
  • Anorexia
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Low Vitamin B12
  • Low iron
  • Hypopituitarism

Since most of these conditions come with other symptoms, it is important to pay attention to how one is feeling as a whole and consult a medical professional if an imbalance is suspected.
